Ideas to bring variety & Interest to Meetings: #1

Ideas shared from Fellowship Facilitators at RCM 2016:

St. Malachy: Our unique feature would be the discussion -everyone participates and enjoys sharing these personal experiences with the group. We all have become very close due to the discussing and sharing.

OL Assumption, SB: We begin our meeting with prayer and song as many fellowships do. However, we then go into a getting to know you questions. Examples: share what made your Christmas season special? What is your favorite psalm? what is your favorite prayer? We also always have lunch together after we end our meeting. The ladies take turns signing up for refreshments. Our ladies are so talented with making good food. A couple years ago I (Maria) collected and made a cookbook with all the recipes that the ladies had made for our lunches.

Good Shepherd, TX: We practice KISS: Keep It Simple Sweetie! Basically, keep your eyes, heart, minds focused on God and all will be well. Peace happens when you focus on God. We also do a secret sister/angel from Jan-May=praying for each other every day.

If study has 20 questions every lesson; use 20 Popsicle sticks numbered 1-20. Each participant takes one stick & answers that question.

OLG Monastery: Light a candle and orally invite the Holy Spirit into our presence; play the music song, with text sometimes on the TV. Each mtg. 1 participant shares her favorite psalm and why. God moments are shared. What was memorable about your Christmas? What is your favorite prayer? Recipe prayer book.

St. Anthony, SB: Prayer bookmark. Every month our ladies put their name on a prayer card. At the end of the session the cards are handed out and each lady goes away with someone to pray for during the month. Periodically, throughout the study, we do fun Bible verse quiz related to the lesson. It makes the ladies participate more. It makes it a fun learning experience.

Newman Ctr. Riverside: We take a moment to center and calm ourselves. Then we spend a few minutes doing Lectio Divina.

At the pm FCCW group we are now acknowledging birthdays of our ladies in our group. A special treat is given with a small gift (bookmark, pen, etc.) We are a small and very intimate group. This allows us to bond closely with one another.

St. Christopher: We have music through someone’s tablet and we sometimes just listen and sing if we want

St. Joseph, Elk Grove, CA: We sing songs connected with our study. In addition to the prayer shawls we’ve been making for the past few years, we’re now doing birthday cards; even for past members who have left the group.

Holy Spirit, Fairfeild. CA: We attend the Ash Wednesday retreat at Christ the King retreat center; our sharing can get animated, we cry together at times.

St. Catherine of Alex., Riverside: We have resumed taking pictures at all of our meetings and Christine pulls them together in a pictorial display for a yearly scrapbook including captions with members’ names to incorporate into our roster.

St. Mary Magdalene: We are celebrating birthdays by praying the Birthday Prayer, and all sign a card. Making day special: Having a broad demographic of ages makes for extraordinary conversations. We love encouraging all ages to attend our meetings!

St. Frances X. Cabrini, Crestline, CA: Relating Scriptures/passages from our study into person experiences and thoughts. Potluck, handouts, welcoming to me. Sharing and the group is very fun and informative. Sharing with our group is special.

Palm Desert, Fellowship into the Word. We always start our meeting with the same song that we are sing, “Everyday God”. We have an opportunity to go deeper as we listen to Dr. Jim Schmiesing give a lecture.

Goodyear, AZ: Prayer Basket—write prayer request and put in the basket. The basket request has 80-90! Participation take it home and pray for that intention until you return to next meeting.

Prayer Request: OLG―pray out loud for prayer intentions plus they use the Prayer Basket.

2 potluck dinners per year and they invite a guest. Entice your priest with home cooking.
