What
is OLG's Role in FCCW?
Our Lady of
Guadalupe was declared the patroness of the Americas in 1979 in
a prayer by
Pope John Paul II. During a talk
about the New Evangelization of Our Lady of Guadalupe
by Fr. Virgilio Elizondo in February 1996 at the
Los Angeles Religious Education Congress, FCCW
Foundress Patricia Scileppi heard and recognized the
characteristics he identified in the story of OLG as the same
elements used by the Fellowship of Catholic Christian Women.
In his talk, Fr. Elizondo said, "here is where we begin to see Our
Lady as a model for the new evangelization."
Pat encourages all members of FCCW to integrate the
10 characteristics of
the New Evangelization of OLG into running
their fellowships. FCCW is the fulfillment of the call
to evangelization which
Pope John Paul II made in that first trip to the Americas in
1979 and Our Lady of Guadalupe is FCCW's patroness.
Simply put, these characteristics are the guidelines FCCW
uses to carry out its Mission .
